Astrology meets ayurveda: A new era of healing with panchagavya
Author(s): K Shraavani Reddy
Abstract: This study explores the integrative potential of
Jyotisha (Vedic astrology) as a temporal and cosmological framework for
synchronizing Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine) and Panchagavya
(cow-derived formulations) in both health and agricultural domains. Jyotisha,
regarded as the “eye of the Vedas,” offers a sophisticated system for
determining auspicious timings (muhurta), planetary influences (graha phala),
and seasonal rhythms (ritu chakra), which can significantly enhance the
efficacy of Ayurvedic therapies and Panchagavya-based applications. Drawing on classical
texts such as Bṛhat Samhita, Charaka Samhita, Surya Siddhanta, and
Vrikshayurveda, the paper introduces the concept of Ayurgavya Jyotish—a model
that integrates cosmic intelligence with biological and environmental cycles.
Through theoretical analysis and applied case examples, the study demonstrates
how planetary positions and lunar phases can guide the timing of Panchagavya
preparation, herbal medicine harvesting, and preventive health practices. The
paper argues for the scientific relevance of Jyotisha as a guiding system for
sustainable, time-sensitive, and ecologically aligned practices. This
interdisciplinary approach contributes to the emerging discourse on traditional
ecological knowledge (TEK), agro-astrology, and holistic health systems.
